Serving Your Community

New Year’s celebrations of have come and gone and with that comes the promise to yourself and others of how this year is going to be different from that last. Individuals have all sorts of expectations for their New Year’s resolutions. It’s that time of year when gym memberships spike, diets are instilled, smokers break the habit, drinkers put down the glass, and the list could go on and on. While none of these resolutions are to be condoned (because they are life improvements when conquered), MS Companies would like to propose a different kind of resolution. Just because the holidays are over, it doesn’t mean that the giving season is complete. All things considered, the giving season should last 365 days a year. As a business, why not make a New Year’s resolution to give back more to your community.

It is important for businesses to give back to the community. Everyone wants to be the leading business. Why not be the business leading the movement in giving back to your community?  It takes just one person in the office to get the ball rolling and others will hop on bored as well.

There are several ways to broach this topic at the office. First, the employees of your business should agree on a local charity, service project, school, soup kitchen, youth club, etc., to donate your time too. It is important to call ahead to whatever organization you choose and speak with the director to learn more about the group and how your company can become involved. Dates must be coordinated between your office(s) and the organization as to when you will be donating your time. Working as an entire office is fun and everyone can share their day’s experience when all is said and done.

Other ideas include adopting a highway or road to keep clean. The Eli Lily headquarters in Indianapolis painted a mural on a wall that had chipping paint in Broad Ripple, Indiana to make the road more visually appealing. Everyone in the area loves it. There are thousands of ways to give back to the community. The most important thing is to sit and discuss as a business what you would like to do and DO IT. Make the decision to help out your community. Here are 366 ideas of how you can give back to your community and an article to guide your choice of which type of organization you would like to dedicate your business’ time to.

As with any resolution or goal, it is up to the individuals who made it to keep it going. Motivate one another. Giving back to the community could be a once a year thing, twice a year, once a month, or as often as everyone agrees. The point is that it doesn’t matter how big or small your contribution to your community is, it is that fact that you are contributing at all.
